Earlier this year, the community of the Yeshiva Ohr Simcha and some residents of Englewood gathered to remember the Yeshiva’s founder, Rabbi Yosef Strassfeld, z”l on his third death anniversary. They recalled how Rav Strassfeld was genuinely warm and positive in his disposition and treatment of the Yeshiva students and the Englewood community.

The gathering was hosted by the members of Ahavath Torah, led by their Rav, Rabbi Chaim Poupko, who stressed that Rav Strassfeld’s mission was to make the Yeshiva “a place of light and joy” that would encourage and boost the confidence of the students. The Yeshiva offers learning opportunities, such as the Gemara skills classes for adults and one-on-one tutoring for young students.

The event’s speaker, Rabbi Pesach Krohn shared stories that showed the goodness in man and the impact such goodness has on others. His talk, entitled “Refining Your Life: Bringing Out the Best Within Yourself,” was appropriate for remembering the impact Rabbi Strassfeld has on many people associated with the Yeshiva.

Rav Poupko also described the kind of relationship the Yeshiva has cultivated with the Englewood community as one of a partnership in prayers and the Torah. The Yeshiva leads the community in Jewish public worship (minyan) when needed.
